On 17 January 2025, Donald Trump announced his official meme coin on Truth Social, three days before his second inauguration. His post appeared at 9 p.m. Eastern time, already 2 a.m. on 18 January in UTC. The card follows the announcement's US date, placing the launch on the Friday evening before the presidential ceremony.
$TRUMP was issued by Trump-affiliated entities as an SPL token on Solana. The existing network carried its transactions, with fees paid in SOL. The token brought a political name into a market shaped by online attention, community identity and trading. Its connection to the president-elect was central to the launch; it was a privately issued token, not US government currency.
The new attraction carries that meeting of politics and crypto into the collection's fairground. The wheel recalls Solana's earlier Mainnet Beta card, while familiar visitors draw together other stories from the set. The launch date shines above the entrance; the inauguration is still three days away.
