10,000 BITCOINS FOR PIZZA.

Laszlo Hanyecz confirmed a 10,000 BTC pizza exchange on 22 May 2010.

Two open pizza boxes fill the desk. Steam rises into a spiral of golden coins, while the computer glows blue behind them. The scene gives an invisible payment a physical destination: dinner. After the whitepaper, the first block and the first transfer, this chapter brings Bitcoin into an ordinary human exchange.

On 18 May 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz offered 10,000 bitcoins on the Bitcoin Forum for two large pizzas delivered to his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Four days later, he returned to report success and thank the user known as jercos. That confirmation on 22 May gives this card its date. The phrase beneath the title is drawn from his completion post.

Jercos was Jeremy Sturdivant. In a later interview, he recalled paying for the delivery online with a card and arranging the exchange through IRC. The bitcoin went to another person who organised the meal; the restaurant was paid through an ordinary ordering system. A small online community had found a way to turn its experimental currency into something useful beyond a computer screen.

The familiar temptation is to imagine what those coins could buy years later. This image stays with the moment when they bought food. The pizzas are large, warm and immediate; the coins are a visual metaphor for value changing hands. The room, moonlit view and flying gold are an imagined setting, rather than a reconstruction of Hanyecz's home or the delivery hour. The meal makes the experiment tangible.
